Wooden Mantels

Traditional and contemporary solid wood mantels. Oak, pine, walnut and other woods.

A wooden mantel is the traditional finishing touch for a fireplace.

Designs in wood range from cottage mantelpieces in warm and informal pine to sophisticated and contemporary wood fire surrounds. Elegant solid oak wooden mantels in or black walnut surrounds will complement modern fires and fireplaces. And there are always plain wood surrounds that can be painted to match the decor of your room.

There has never been a wider choice of wooden mantels.  The wooden surrounds that you see here are almost all solid wood, built to high quality standards. These mantels will last for many years with little maintenance other than dusting and an annual waxing. Wooden mantels will mature over time and develop the deep patina that comes with fine furniture.

Technical Notes: As wood is a combustible material it needs to be kept well away from fire and heat. As a rule, gas fire and stoves need a minimum of 6" at the sides and 12" above. Wood burning stoves need to leave a gap of at least 12" at the sides and 18" above the stove, and open fires should have similar distances from the limit of the flames. This means that an open inglenook where the flames can reach a height of 24-36" will dictate a minimum beam height of about 4' 6".

Make sure you choose a wooden mantel that can take the heat and drying from a gas or open fire, made from quality kiln dried timber. Veneered finishes can be susceptible to heat from fires. Also look for genuine veneer finishes, rather than grain effect papers.

Feature Fireplace supplies a great range of top quality English made wooden fire surrounds which will outperform any imports for durability and appearance.
